I run PBD; a specialist design company that creates branded design and consumer packaging for small and medium sized businesses in the real food, natural skincare, toiletries, spa and essential oil sectors. Based in the West Country, near Bristol and close to the M5, PBD provides a comprehensive design and resourcing service for clients across the UK. PBD has also worked with clients in Europe, India, Japan and the USA.
PBD was born out of a passion for design and a desire to work directly with the decision makers of small, dynamic enterprises. I founded PBD in 1991 having spent the previous 10 years working with blue chip companies, where the inherent bureaucracy, at best a hindrance, finally became an unacceptable constraint. I wanted to work with people who appreciated what design could do and who would use design in proactive ways to develop their businesses. The clients that I work with are micro-enterprises and SMEs. Our working relationships are open and collaborative with a strong commercial focus, which produces more compelling work that better reflects the values and personalities of their businesses.
I didn’t set up PBD to spend my time directing other designers, so whilst I often work with a broad range of specialist consultants that are selected specifically for a particular project, every piece of work is planned, designed and managed by me, aided by an assistant and a small army of loyal freelancers.
